President Trump: My Relationship with Mitch McConnell "Is Outstanding"

President Donald Trump threaded a needle in the Rose Garden on Monday.

"My relationship with this gentleman is outstanding", Mr. Trump said of McConnell, not mentioning some of his tough statements and tough tweets about the Senate GOP leader in the past. While Graham said that the failure to pass tax reform would be "the end of Mitch McConnell as we know it", that is not because of McConnell in particular.

The two took questions at length from a quickly assembled White House press corps that stood bunched together on the lawn since there wasn't even time to set up chairs. In Alabama's special election, Bannon backed Roy Moore over the incumbent, Senator Luther Strange, who had the support of both McConnell and the president. But the president also suggested he might try to talk Bannon out of some of his threats against Senate Republicans whom McConnell pledged to defend.

Trump, meanwhile, did his best to soothe the fissures in the GOP, insisting the Republican Party is unified. There he was, standing next to his necessary ally and sometimes rival, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and being asked about his former chief strategist, Steve Bannon, who has become something of a hero to the GOP's growing nationalist base. Those habits have followed him to the White House, and McConnell has regularly been that punching bag.

Martin's " A Song of Ice and Fire " series of novels, which helped inspire the TV fantasy " Game of Thrones ". Dotrice was also a wireless operator and an air gunner with the Royal Air Force prior to his acting career.

"The whole Russian Federation thing was an excuse for the Democrats losing an election", Trump said.

Trump went on to say, "I hope to be able to", before saying again that Democrats "are doing nothing, but obstructing" right now.

The president also got a question about Hillary Clinton and the National Football League and took the occasion to implore her to run again in 2020.
