IAF men, 2 ultras killed in JK encounter

After Wednesday's encounter in Bandipora between security forces and militants, Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra will meet home minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi, India Today reported.

The two Garuds killed on Wednesday in Kashmir were from the first batch of the Indian Air Force (IAF) commandos embedded with the Army for live situational training in Kashmir, a decision taken in the wake of the terrorist attack on the Pathankot airbase in 2016.

He added that two "terrorists" belonging to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba group have also been killed in the gunfight in Hajin village in northern Kashmir's Bandipora, 30km away from the region's main city of Srinagar. Both belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba militant outfit, he said.

The police sources said, "Three soldiers sustained injuries, two of whom were critical and later succumbed". Two Air Force Garud personnel were also martyred in the action. SP Vaid, DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police, said that one of the slain terrorists has been identified as a local and the other is a Pakistani national.

Confirming the deaths, defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said the commandos were operating with the army for operational experience and training.

As per the reports, the Khalid was killed in the joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operation Group, CRPF and Army.

The terrorist opened fire on the security forces.

The IAF said the joint team of IAF personnel and the Army laid a cordon around a house in Hajin village after getting intelligence input that 5-6 terrorists were hiding in it. Two Kashmiris were also died in a gunfight with Indian security forces in Bandipora district.
