George Weah: Wenger Congratulates Former Arsenal Player On Election As Liberian President

The Liberty Party, whose candidate Charles Brumskine was considered a front-runner to take over from Nobel Peace Prize victor Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, said it would consider taking legal action if the National Elections Commission (NEC) did not act on its demands.

A runoff election was widely expected with 20 candidates vying to replace Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa's first female president.

However Liberia's Observer newspaper reports that "the possibility of a run-off between presidential hopefuls George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and Joseph Boakai of the ruling Unity Party (UP), is becoming increasingly likely". The election took place on Tuesday.

Global observers say the polls went smoothly despite late start to voting in some counties.

Gucci pledges to go fur free in 'huge game-changer'
Gucci's move follows a similar initiative by Italian rivals Armani, which a year ago pledged to drop fur from its collections. Gucci says it will no longer use mink, coyote, raccoon dog, fox, rabbit or all other species specially bred or caught.

Several foreign media outlets claimed Weah, the former World Footballer of the Year, has already run the election. He played for Monaco, PSG, Olympic (Marseille), Chelsea, Manchester City and Milan.

He was crowned World Footballer of the Year in 1995 and became the first African to win the title.

He was champion of France and Italy (twice), he won three times the French Cup and once the English Cup.

After ending his football career, George Weah embarked on humanitarian and political activities.
