District Attorney Defends Decision Not to Prosecute Harvey Weinstein

It turns out Harvey Weinstein's lawyer donated money to the D.A. a couple years ago. Weinstein was accused of sexual assault in 2015, and Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. were investigated earlier this decade for allegedly misleading real estate buyers.

Speaking at the Anti-Violence Project Courage Awards Wednesday night in New York City after being presented with a courage award for his work on behalf of the LGBTQ community, Biden addressed the situation with Weinstein.

Just ask yourself, who is responsible for harvey weinstein: a bunch of women who aren't harvey weinstein, or harvey weinstein?

He denied specifically that any donations to his campaign had or would ever influence his decisions.

The district attorney was responding to questions from reporters in NY as a series of explosive, investigative reports tilt the national spotlight to Vance, whose winding career is now clashing with two of the most controversial names in the country. The investigation spanned from 2010 to 2012. Eventually it was dropped.

The report about the Trumps said Kasowitz also visited Vance's office in May of that year, and three months later, Vance overruled his prosecutors and dropped the case. "I donated to Cy Vance's campaign because I was and remain extremely impressed by him as a person of impeccable integrity, as a brilliant lawyer and as a public servant with creative ideas and tremendous ability". Vance later returned the contribution.

Elkan Abramowitz, the head of a law firm defending the Trump Organization, made the donation in March 2011, during a fraud investigation into the Trump siblings and others related to the construction of the ill-fated Trump Soho project. "I had to make a call and I made the call, and I think I made the right call".

Acting Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez, who was Thompson's hand-picked successor, won the primary with 53 percent of the vote, and is running unopposed in November.
